November Professional Spotlight: Banks Noel

Banks Noel

Name: Banks Noel
Place of Employment: Axiom
Job Title: Designer

How long have you been an AIGA Houston member & what do you get out of being an AIGA member?

I have been a member for about 2 years. For me, being involved with AIGA is just a great way to be in contact with people that share the same passion for great creative.

What made you want to be a designer?

I’m not really sure other than the fact that design is something that I have always loved to do. Whether it’s ads, logos, websites, posters, whatever, I enjoy solving problems creatively. As far as pursuing it as a career, I would have to say my college professors were a huge influence on me.

When you aren’t designing, what are you doing?

Playing guitar, running/exercising, watching TV, Hearing live music, traveling, looking at design/advertising annuals, playing sports, watching sports, skiing, fly fishing…

Who are your design heroes or what designers are you following right now?

Don’t really have any specific design heros, but some of the designers that I have been following are Mark McDevitt and Robert Lee from Methane Studios (Minneapolis), Andre and Dan from Dress Code (NY), Brandon Murphy from Caliber Creative (Dallas).

What is your greatest accomplishment to date as a designer?

Don’t really have a real stand out… I guess getting the opportunity to design things like… the graphics for the AIGA Houston Chip Kidd event and this years AAF Student Conference would be the types of projects that are the most fulfilling. Basically, the work that I am asked to do for a good cause.

What’s your favorite typeface?

Trade Gothic right now, but it comes and goes in waves.

Where can we find you?
