If you’re already familiar with Mr. Draplin, then I’m sure you’ve secured tickets already for his Houston Design Week event on Thursday, 9/26. Because of course you have.

For the uninitiated: in addition to being one of the nicest, most genuine dudes in design, Mr. Draplin is also one of the more sought-after speakers in design today, with a loyal following that includes many Houstonians (and yours truly). If you’ve ever driven around town and rolled your eyes at a gawd-awful freeway billboard, or are already planning to attend our FREE screening of  Sign Painters, then this is the design event for you (check out the video below and you’ll see what I mean).

We’re teaming up with our friends at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston once again to bring you Mr. Draplin’s “Tall Tales from a Large Man” road show to Sundance Cinemas Houston as part of Houston Design Week 2013 and CAMH’s exhibition Graphic Design–Now in Production.

About the event:
Using scientific proof and state-of-the-art multimedia techniques, Aaron James Draplin of the Draplin Design Co. delivers a suckerpunch of a talk that aims to provide bonafide proof of work, the highs and lows of a ferociously independent existence and a couple tall tales from his so-called career in the cutthroat world of contemporary graphic design. Just a regular American guy with a trajectory a little dirtier than yours, his talk is open to all oncomers brave enough to show up. If you are a youngster, you may find yourself inspired to attack your design future in a different way. If you are established, you may just leave feeling grateful you don’t have anything to do with him. Hard to say. All champion citizens are invited to attend! You can see some of Draplin’s work at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston where it is included in the major exhibition Graphic Design-Now in Production, on view through September 29.
