October Student Member Spotlight: Sarah Windsor

400

Name: Sarah Windsor
School: The Art Institute of Houston
Year: Senior, Graduation date: March 2010

What made you want to study design?

I have always had a fascination with typography. When I was growing up, I would sit down with spiral notebook after spiral notebook and draw different fonts. My grandmother would see me sitting there and she would say, “Sarah, I bet you’re going to be a Graphic Designer.” Little did I know, she would be right. At the time, I had no clue what a Graphic Designer did, let alone what design was, I just knew that I loved to draw.

When you aren’t at school, what are you doing?

Going to local art shows, exhibits, and museums, spending time with family and friends.

How long have you been an AIGA Houston member & what do you get out of being an AIGA member?

I have been an AIGA Houston member for about a year. During this time, I was also
elected President of the student AIGA chapter at The Art Institute of Houston. This
opportunity has allowed me to broaden myself both as a student and designer. The
AIGA Houston has provided me with an excellent chance to network with local artists.

What’s your favorite typeface?

Sans-Serif: Century Gothic
Serif: Rockwell

Who are your design heroes or what designers are you following right now?

Currently, I’m not following any specific designers. I look to art movements as well as
design books for inspiration.

Where can we find you?
